BECKLEY, W.Va. – Concord University’s Beckley campus at the Erma Byrd Higher Education Center will be collecting items for care packages to send to the currently deployed troops from the local area. In honor of Veterans Day, Concord University is partnering with local post offices for a “Support Our Troops Event.”

During the first two weeks of November, donation boxes will be open at the Erma Byrd Higher Education Center in Beckley and at the Concord University Athens campus at the Welcome Center in the Jerry and Jean Beasley Student Center.

Some food items needed include: canned food (like beef ravioli or soup), chips, cookies, crackers, granola bars, Ramen noodles, hot chocolate, beef jerky, and drink mix packets. Other items needed are hand warmers, hand sanitizer, stationary, paperback books, wet wipes, and chap-stick. Cards and letters of support or thanks and postage for the Flat Rate Priority Mail boxes can be donated as well.

Following the collection event, Concord students will march in the Beckley Veterans Day Parade on Monday, Nov. 11.
