ATHENS, W.Va. - Concord University students no longer need to pay for Microsoft Office software. Concord’s Office of Technology Services announces a partnership between Concord University and Microsoft’s Student Advantage Program called Office 365 ProPlus.

As of March 3, 2014 all enrolled CU students are licensed to install the latest version of Office that includes the industry standards of Access, Excel, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and more. There is no charge to students and it will remain available until the student is no longer enrolled. The software can be installed on up to five computers running Microsoft Windows or Mac OS X operating systems.

The cost savings to Concord students is significant. Ordinarily, a consumer would spend about $400 on Microsoft’s Office 2013 ProPlus or pay $12 per month to subscribe to Office 365 ProPlus.

“Office 365 is a big win for our students that provides them the latest versions of industry standard software,” said Chuck Elliott, chief technology officer with the Concord University Office of Technology Services. “Our students are extremely busy and now they can have the latest and greatest software from Microsoft to help them stay organized and professional.”

Kathy Reed, help desk coordinator, thinks this is an important development for students. “We are excited to bring this opportunity to our students. I have personally experienced students in distress because they did not have the software available on their laptop computers and now we have an easy solution to that problem.”

Students can also install Office 365 on their mobile devices. A list of frequently asked questions (FAQ), links to online training resources, and other helpful information can be found at For more information regarding the Office 365 ProPlus program contact Kathy Reed at (304) 384-5126.
