CONCORD UNIVERSITY’S BECKLEY CAMPUS
COLLECTING SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR ‘STUFF THE BUS’
BEAVER, W.Va. – Concord University’s Beckley campus is issuing the challenge to help them “Stuff the Bus” again this year. In 2013, the campaign collected a bus load of school supplies for children in southern West Virginia helping them have a positive start to the new school year.
Concord students, staff and faculty, along with individuals and businesses in the community, are encouraged to participate.
The following supplies are on the “Stuff the Bus” wish list: elementary schools – crayons, magic markers, colored pencils and backpacks; secondary schools – calculators, flash drives, spiral one-subject notebooks, spiral three-subject notebooks, staplers, notecards and whiteout; all students – hand sanitizer, tissues, pencil cases, black and white notebooks, erasers, glue, folders, rulers, pencil sharpeners, highlighters, pencils, pens and loose leaf notebook paper. Please note that no food donations may be accepted.
The “Stuff the Bus” official kickoff is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 2 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Beckley Walmart. Another collection day is planned for Saturday, Aug. 16 at the same location from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Prizes will be awarded at each event.
Every individual contributing a $5 donation for “Stuff the Bus” will be registered to win the grand prize consisting of a Nikon camera bundle valued at $700. There will also be door prizes at each event including NASCAR collectibles, a one night stay at Country Inns & Suites in Beckley, four gate admission tickets to the State Fair of West Virginia, and two tickets for an all-day Float Trip with Ace Whitewater.
The wrap-up event will be held at Concord’s Beckley location at the Erma Byrd Center, 300 University Drive, Beaver, W.Va. on Aug. 16 beginning at 6 p.m. The winner of the camera bundle will be announced at this time.
Items for “Stuff the Bus” are also being collected at the Athens-Concord Town Social on Sunday, Aug. 10. The social will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Concord’s front lawn in Athens. Theme for this year is “Athens-Concord: A Caring Community.”
Businesses are encouraged to join the “Stuff the Bus” effort by setting up a donation box or making a donation of company branded school supplies. (Donation boxes will be provided.) This year “Stuff the Bus” is also offering sponsorships for those wishing to make a cash donation. Gold Sponsorship is available for a $100 donation. Gold sponsors will have their logos listed on a 16x20 poster and will be acknowledged during a live remote at the kickoff event on Aug. 2. Silver Sponsorships are $50 and include an 8x10 poster with the company logo. Bronze Sponsorships are $25 and all bronze sponsors will be listed together on a poster. Sponsorship posters will be displayed on the school bus that is being stuffed.
