Collegiate Singers and ConChords to Present an Evening of Folk Music

Athens, W.Va. - Concord College is proud to present an evening of enchanting music with the Collegiate Singers and ConChords, April 26, 2001, 7:00 p.m. The musical performance will be held in the Main Auditorium of the Alexander Fine Arts Center.

The repertoire includes folk songs from various countries. The conductor is Concord Professor Douglas Gilmer who has been the choral director for over six years. He holds a Master’s degree in music from Indiana University and has been at Concord for eight years.

The ConChords are a selective group developed under the leadership of Professor Emeritus James R. Fleming, Ms. Beatrice Leist, and Professor Gilmer. While Ms. Leist concentrated on making the ConChords a jazz-oriented group, Professor Gilmer has helped its evolution into a Madrigal Choir type ensemble.

The Collegiate Singers have been a part of the Concord community for the past several decades. The group encompasses brilliant singers from various disciplines and has provided a nurturing atmosphere for blossoming talent in southern West Virginia.

The performance is free to the public. Further information about the performance can be obtained by calling 1-304-384-5101.
