ATHENS, W.Va. – West Virginia Academic Spotlight is a community evaluation of West Virginia’s K-12 standards. In conjunction with the project, a Town Hall Meeting will be held at Concord University on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will provide an opportunity to learn more about the project and include an open discussion about the standards and related topics.

The Town Hall Meeting will be held in Room 304 of the Rahall Technology Center on Concord’s Athens campus.

The WV Department of Education announced the launch of “Academic Spotlight: A Community Evaluation of Our Standards” on July 8. This initiative is an effort to solicit actionable feedback on the WV Next Generation standards, which are the current set of educational standards in grades K-12 in West Virginia.

The Academic Spotlight is an opportunity for West Virginians to have a voice in the education of students in grades K-12. The project’s website can be accessed at www.wvacademicspotlight.statestandards.org The website will remain open until Sept. 30, 2015.

Recommendations will be made to the Board of Education based on these comments at the end of 2015.

This effort is a partnership between the WV Department of Education, the WV Board of Education, the WVU College of Education and Human Resources, the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation, and the Southern Regional Education Board.
