ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University Theatre Department will present “Playing on Suspense,” an evening of one-act plays appropriate for the Halloween season.   The plays, “Starline 117” and “You Do Love Me, Don’t You?,” will be performed on Oct. 26 and 27 in the H.C. Paul Theatre at 7 p.m.

Both plays are mysterious and eerie performances. “Starline 117” is about a supernatural event, reminiscent of the old “Twilight Zone” series. The second play, “You Do Love Me, Don’t You?”  is about a young woman who brings her new boyfriend home to meet her family and things don’t go exactly right.  Thirteen students have roles and two students are directing the plays this year. Each play is around 25 minutes in length and there will be a 10 minute intermission between the shows.

This event was made possible by Concord University’s Fundamentals of Directing course taught by Theatre Director Karen Vuranch and is produced in cooperation with Off The Wall Plays.  The two student directors are Concord senior Kristen Osborne, who is directing “You Do Love Me, Don’t You?” and sophomore Megan Perdue, director of “Starline 117.”

Karen Vuranch stated, “It is especially nice to see the two student directors take leadership roles and create really fine productions. It is wonderful to have so many students involved in the Theatre Department.”

This event is free of charge and open to Concord students, faculty, and staff as well as the general public. Due to the content of the shows, parents and guardians of children under 12 should use their discretion.  In lieu of admission, donations will be accepted for SAFE, a domestic violence shelter in Welch, because domestic violence is what is really scary, Vuranch stated. She went on to say that October is Domestic Violence Awareness month.
