Concord University Students Conducting Fundraiser To Assist Victims Of Hurricanes Harvey And Irma

ATHENS, W.Va. – A University 100 class at Concord University is conducting a week-long fundraiser for the victims of Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma as a community service project.

Graci Hodges, a student in the class, says donations will go to the Salvation Army to assist in that organization’s hurricane relief efforts. She said she and her classmates have a goal of collecting $1,000.

The students will be selling raffle tickets for drawings for gift cards and hosting a bake sale each day during lunch the week of Sept. 25-29, 2017. CU students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in the fundraiser by visiting the tables which will be located on the lower level of the Student Center outside of the bookstore. A drawing will be held each day for one of the gift cards.

A concert on Wednesday, Sept. 27 offers another opportunity for giving. The Change will perform at 8 p.m. that evening on the Subway Stage. Admission to the concert is free, but donations will be accepted for the hurricane victims. The general public is invited to join Concord students, faculty and staff at the concert.

Raffle tickets will be sold on Saturday, Sept. 30 during the Mountain Lions home football game for an opportunity to win a basket filled with CU items. Fans at the game are invited to participate. Kickoff for the game is set for noon at Callaghan Stadium.

Dr. Sarah Beasley, director of retention, is the instructor for the University 100 class.
