CONCORD UNIVERSITY BEGINNING NEW ACADEMIC YEAR

 WITH FRESHMAN CONVOCATION

 

 

ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord University will mark the beginning of the 2018-2019 academic year with a Freshman Convocation on Monday, Aug. 13 at 3 p.m. in the Main Theatre of the Alexander Fine Arts Center. This special ceremony is a time to welcome incoming students into the Concord community.

           

The Convocation Message will be delivered by Concord University graduate and West Virginia Senator Kenny Mann. A Monroe County, West Virginia native, Senator Mann is a 2000 graduate of James Monroe High School, a 2005 graduate of Mid-America College of Funeral Service, and a 2006 graduate of Concord University. He is a licensed funeral director and is the owner of Groves-Mann Funeral Home in Union, WV.

           

Senator Mann is a past member of the Monroe County Board of Education. He was elected to the West Virginia State Senate in 2016. He serves as Chairman of the Education Committee and also serves on the Finance Committee, Banking and Insurance Committee, Agriculture Committee, Natural Resources Committee, Economic Development Committee, and the Energy, Industry, and Mining Committee. 

           

He resides in Greenville, WV on the family farm, with his wife Angie who is a principal in Monroe County. Together, they have six children, Brooklyn, Brianna, Hannah B., Hannah G., Haleigh, and Emmett.

           

Following the convocation, the traditional Tree Planting Ceremony in honor of the incoming students of 2018 will be held in the lawn between the Fine Arts Center and the Carter Center.
