Concord University Theater Presents Original Musical

Athens – “Barfly,” an original jazz and blues musical in two acts, will be performed at Concord University on Wednesday, April 19 through Saturday, April 22 at 8 p.m. in the H.C. Paul Theater.

Dr. Thomas Gambill, director of the Concord University theater department, wrote the script based on the thoughts of Richard Corey Franklin.

“Barfly,” a musical in two acts, is a joint effort between the music and theater departments at Concord. Cast members and musicians include Amilee Bobbin, Daniels; Sherman Brown, Kellysville; Natale Clark, Davis; J.D. Estep, Richwood; R. Corey Franklin, Big Sandy; Jeff Faulkner, Beckley; Jason Coleman, Fayetteville; Mandy Garnes, Charleston; Holly Glick, Renick; Sara Golden, Ranielle; Steven Kade, Berlin, Conn.; Michael Kinder, South Charleston; John McBrayer, Hurricane; Jessica Morgan, Princeton; Yuka Nakagawa, Ibaraki, Japan; Elizabeth Rhule, Charleston; Joseph Ruiz, Stafford, Va.; Trisha Lynne St. Clair, Peterstown; Billy Tolley, Athens; Dustin Williams, Princeton; Jeremy Craft, Roanoke, Va.; Nick Durham, Beckley; Dr. Timothy Mainland, Athens; Seth Vaughn, Princeton; and Amanda Wright, Newhall.

Student producer, Richard Corey Franklin said, “‘Barfly’ was inspired by the things that I have seen traveling and playing music along with the music of songwriter Tom Waits and the sound of the Concord University Commanders. This is an opportunity to break away from the chorus-based musicals we have performed in the past and showcase the talents of Concord students.”

The Concord University Box Office will start taking reservations for the show on April 10, 2006. All reservations must be claimed 30 minutes before the show.

The show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for non-Concord students. The show is not recommended for children.
