CONCORD UNIVERSITY WELCOMES ALUMNI FOR HOMECOMING 2023

ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord University eagerly welcomed alumni and friends to campus for the 2023 Homecoming football game and activities. Mountain Lions from near and far made their way back to “The Campus Beautiful”.

Spectators lined Vermillion Street on Thursday evening for the Homecoming Parade followed by the bonfire. On Friday evening Concord Alumni gathered at University Point for CU After Hours with free food and live music by Grace Campbell. New lifetime members were pinned, and four awards were presented, as follows:

  • Trey Lockhart, Young Alumnus Award
  • Dr. Susan Williams, Outstanding Alumnus
  • Glenn and Sandra Lowe, Golden Alumnus
  • Amanda Revels, Alumnus the of the Year

Saturday morning, the Athletic Department held its Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and breakfast for members and their families in the Jerry and Jean Beasley Student Center Ballroom.

Across campus, the Keg & Eggs event welcomed visitors to University Point for made-to-order omelets, local beer (provided by Big Timber Company, Sophisticated Hound and Greenbrier Brewing Company), and live music by James Hart. In the lounge of University Point, the class of 1973 celebrated their 50th reunion.

A long-standing tradition at Homecoming is the annual competition for the Homecoming Royalty crowns. Campus organizations including Alpha Sigma Alpha (AΣA), Alpha Psi Omega (ΑΨΩ), Delta Zeta (ΔΖ), the Collegiate Singers, the Honors Program, PATCH, Sigma Sigma Sigma (ΣΣΣ), Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) nominated candidates. Four teams representing eight Concord student organizations were nominated for the honor of being crowned the 2023 Homecoming Royalty. Students were judged on billboard, philanthropy (for which organizations raised 2,067 items of canned food, toiletries, school supplies, and non-perishable items for the CU Food Pantry), parade float, costumes, banner, and a lip sync contest. Candidates were Molly Cook, Benjamin Bailey, Ciersten Rose, Emily Hall, Grace King, Alex Lim, Kelly Hanson and Matthew Mullins. The candidates took the field at half-time of Concord’s game against Frostburg State to see if their week of campaigning for votes paid off. With votes tallied, Ms. Molly Cook from Neville, WV and Mr. Benjamin Bailey from Wyoming, WV were crowned 2023 Homecoming Royalty by President Kendra Boggess.
