METHODIST CHURCH CHOIRS FROM THROUGHOUT SOUTHERN WV JOIN TO PERFORM CANTATA AT CONCORD UNIVERSITY
ATHENS, WV – Methodist church choirs from throughout Southern West Virginia are joining to perform a holiday cantata, “Love’s Pure Light” arranged by Camp Kirkland on Sunday, December 10 at 4:00 PM. There is no charge to attend. Daniel Spurgeon, Music Director at the Methodist Temple in Beckley, WV is directing the choir and orchestra.
Singers and instrumentalists from around the area are encouraged to join.
For anyone interested, there will be a rehearsal on Sunday, November 26 at 3:30 PM in the Alexander Fine Arts Center, with an additional rehearsal before the performance on Sunday, December 10.
Daniel Spurgeon is a graduate of Marshall University with a BA in Music Education. He received his Master’s Degree from Scarritt Graduate College in Church Music and organ performance. He has played many organ concerts throughout the US and Eastern Europe, and won several national and regional organ competitions. He is also an arranger and composer. Daniel has been the Minister of Music at UMT since 1989.
Jacob Womack, Department of Fine Arts & Communications Chair describes the event, “This is a great opportunity for the Concord University Music Program to collaborate with musicians from across the region. This is an inaugural event and there is already lots of excitement.”
