Shawn Allen, DSW, LCSW, is an Associate Professor in the Social Work Program at Concord University. Shawn obtained the Doctor of Social Work (DSW) from Tulane University in 2021, Master of Social Work (MSW) from West Virginia University in 2011, and Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from Concord University in 2007. He has been a Licensed Social Worker in West Virginia since 2007, became a Licensed Graduate Social Worker in 2011, and a Licensed Certified Social Worker in 2022. Shawn began his career with the Appalachian Area Agency on Aging as one of the state’s first West Virginia Aging and Disability Resource Center coordinators. He has researched elder abuse, service delivery to seniors, ethical practice in social work, supervision in social work, and the impact of COVID -19 and the opioid epidemic on rural older adults. Before coming to Concord full-time in 2014, Shawn served as an adjunct professor for the program. He also serves on many committees in the community, including the Greenbrier Valley Disability Awareness Committee, the WV Olmstead Council, the Caregiver Advisory Committee, and the WV Behavioral Health Planning Council. Shawn lives in Lerona with his wife Jamie and their son John Daniel.
