Biography

Shawn Allen, DSW, MSW, LCSW, is an Associate Professor of Social Work and Co-Director of the CU in Schools program at Concord University.  Shawn obtained his Doctor of Social Work (DSW) from Tulane University in 2021, Master of Social Work (MSW) from West Virginia University in 2011, and Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from Concord University in 2007. He has been a Licensed Social Worker in West Virginia since 2007, became a Licensed Graduate Social Worker in 2011, and a Licensed Certified Social Worker in 2022. Shawn began his career with the Appalachian Area Agency on Aging as one of the state’s first West Virginia Aging and Disability Resource Center coordinators. His research interests include elder abuse, service delivery to seniors, ethical practice in social work, supervision in social work, the impact of COVID-19 and the opioid epidemic on rural older adults, and effective school social work practices. He also serves on several committees in the community, including the WV Olmstead Council and the WV Behavioral Health Planning Council. Shawn lives in Lerona with his wife, Jamie, and their son, John Daniel.
