Biography

Colonel Selvey began his career in the military in November 1988 when he enlisted in the West Virginia Army National Guard as a 12B Combat Engineer while still attending Concord College. Upon graduation from Concord in May 1989, he entered military training and completed Basic and Advanced Individual Training in September 1989 where he received honor graduate. In June of 1991, Selvey graduated from Officer Candidate School (OCS) from the WV Military Academy and was branched as a 2nd Lieutenant in Armor. He completed the Armor Officer Basic Course in June of 1992 and served as a Scout and Tank Platoon leader and a Tank Company Executive officer. He completed the Armor Officer Advance Course in May 1998 as a Captain and received a Tank Company Command. In June of 2000, Selvey was assigned to West Virginia University Senior ROTC program as an Assistant Professor of Military Science and taught Cadets until December 2003 when he was transferred to West Virginia Joint Forces Headquarters in Charleston, WV, promoted to Major, and became the state Training officer. In May of 2004, he volunteered for an individual six-month tour in support of Operation Iraq Freedom.

Selvey served as the National Guard and Reserve Liaison officer at III Corp Headquarters Camp Victory, Baghdad, Iraq. Upon return from Iraq, he was assigned as the S-3 Operations Officer for the 1-150th Armor Battalion. In October 2006, he became the Executive Officer of the 1-150th Armor Battalion and during his assignment the unit deployed in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM from December 2008 through February 2010.

Upon returning from Iraq, Selvey took command of the 1-150th AR in July of 2010 and was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. He remained the commander until October 2013. After command he was transferred to the 30th Armored Brigade Combat Team (ABCT) and the Brigade Deputy Commander, and promoted to Colonel in June 2014. In March 2015 the 30th Brigade was deployed to Kosovo for NATO Peace Keeping mission.

Upon returning from Kosovo in March of 2016 Selvey began the retirement process and retired from U.S. Army in October 2016 with one month short of 28 years of service. In August of 2016 I began teaching for Fayette County Board of Education as the Senior Army Instructor for Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp (JROTC). Selvey currently resides in Fayetteville, WV with wife Sherri and German Shepard Millie.
