Advising & Registration

Overview of Academic Advising

Concord University emphasizes that academic advising is essential to student success. The advising system is designed to give students a strong academic foundation and support them as they progress toward graduation.

Advising services are coordinated through the Office of the Provost, and students are encouraged to consult the most recent Academic Catalog for updated program and course information.

Available Advising Resources

The university provides multiple online and in-person tools to support advising:

  • Degree Works
  • Program Progression Sheets
  • Four-Year Academic Plans
  • Academic Calendar
  • Assistance with trial schedules through the Student Success Center

Because program details may change (course additions, deletions, GPA requirements), students are highly encouraged to regularly consult their assigned faculty advisor.

Students are advised to:

  • Check Degree Works for courses not completed.
  • Check course descriptions and prerequisites before selecting courses by clicking on the course in Degree Works.
  • Use departmental Four-Year Plans and Progression Sheets to determine classes left to take.
  • Review Courses Offered to see what classes are offered for a particular semester.
  • Discuss your personal, academic, and career goals with your faculty advisor.

The Student Success Center can help students prepare a trial schedule before their formal advising meeting. This assists students to have a more informed discussion with their faculty advisor.

Advising for Different Student Groups

New Student Orientations occur prior to the start of the semester, giving admitted students:

  • Individualized degree plans
  • Meetings with faculty advisors
  • Key information for academic and career readiness

Currently enrolled students are assigned an advisor based on their major. Advising sessions occur during fall and spring semesters, but advisors are available year-round for academic support.

You can locate your assigned faculty advisor either through your myConcordU portal under Student Profile or on your Degree Works.

After being readmitted, returning students meet with an academic advisor to create an updated pathway to degree completion. Your advisor may not be the same one as when you previously attended, so please check once you are readmitted.

Transfer students are required to submit official transcripts from all attended schools for admissions. Concord University offers many learning mobility options that can be viewed on the Registrar site. Transfer students can also view how their credits transfer in under Degree Works once they are enrolled.

Concord University is committed to offering excellent support and services to our international students, by offering college credit from your home country.

International Students are advised on immigration matters, health insurance, employment, practical training, travel regulations and community involvement. We also provide programs and services to enhance the stay of our international students, including orientation, social activities and informational sessions through the Office of Multicultural Affairs.

The Regents Bachelor of Arts (RBA) Program is tailored to help students to complete their college degrees. RBA students are eligible to receive college credit for work experience, professional certifications, and military training four years after graduating from high school, do not hold a baccalaureate degree, and meet Concord’s general admission requirements. RBA students are assigned a particular academic advisor to help them navigate the program.

Listed as one of the top military friendly schools, Concord offers tailored advising for veterans, current members of the military, and their dependents. We can assist your with applying your VA benefits to pay for school and have a dedicated staff to advocate on your behalf. Visit the Office of Veteran Services for more information.

Concord understands that many incoming students may be unsure of their major, and that’s completely normal. To support undecided students, the university offers the Career Pathways program, which helps them explore broad areas of interest while still progressing toward graduation. By the end of their first year, students will be ready to move into any degree program that aligns with their chosen pathway. More details about each pathway can be found on Concord’s Career Pathways webpage.

Non-degree seeking students are those who want to enroll in courses but do not intend to pursue a degree, a certificate, or fulfill prerequisites for a particular Concord University degree program. Non-degree seeking students must complete an application to Concord University and advising is typically done through the Office of the Provost.
