PIANO AND VIOLIN CONCERT ANNOUNCED BY CONCORD UNIVERSITY
ATHENS, W.Va. – Dr. Henning Vauth and Dr. Reed Smith, music faculty at Marshall University, will be giving a performance on Monday, October 11 at 7 p.m. in the Alexander Fine Arts Main Auditorium at Concord University. Their program will include piano/violin works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Johannes Brahms, Amy Beach, and more.
Dr. Vauth is Professor of Piano at Marshall University and Co-Director of the Center for Wellness in the Arts. A laureate at international competitions in Italy and Norway, Dr. Vauth has performed at major venues in North and South America, Europe, and Asia, such as the National Concert Hall in Taipei, Taiwan, the Berliner Konzerthaus in Germany, and Alice Tully Hall in New York City.
The Chicago Tribune entitled a review of his solo recital in September 2018: “Pianist delights audience with playing, charm and wit.” Henning Vauth was a jury and faculty member at the 2020 International Meastro Piano Festival & Competition in Taiwan. Further highlights of his most recent international professional engagements in 2018 and 2019 include performances, lectures, and master classes at the Primer Curso de Perfeccionamiento at EAFIT University in Medellin, Colombia, “I Concerti di Mecenate” at the Museo Diocesano in Catania and Ispica, Sicily, Italy, the World Piano Conference in Novi Sad, Serbia, the Global Summer Institute of Music in Richmond, Va., the Festival of the American Liszt Society in Greenville, SC, the International Summer Academy of Music “Lüneburger Heide” in Germany, and the National Taiwan University of the Arts in Taiwan.
Dr. Smith is Professor of violin, viola and chamber music at Marshall University. Since earning degrees in violin performance from the Yale University School of Music and the Eastman School of Music, Dr. Smith has received numerous awards, including first prize in the Columbia Philharmonic Orchestra Young Artists Competition. She has studied violin with Charles Castleman, Linda Cerone, Szymon Goldberg, Peter Salaff and Burton Kaplan.
Smith’s performances have included solo appearances with Orchestra New England, the Connecticut Chamber Orchestra, the Columbia Philharmonic Orchestra, the Huntington Symphony Orchestra, and the Marshall University Symphony Orchestra. As violinist of the Nevelson Duo, she recorded a CD on Albany Records.
