The Campus Beautiful

Concord University’s 125-acre main campus located in Athens, West Virginia, is fondly regarded as “The Campus Beautiful” for its picturesque natural setting, harmonious architecture, and thoughtful landscaping. Surrounded by the Appalachian forests, the campus is situated in the heartland of outdoor adventures. Within an hours’ drive of campus are Winter Place Ski Resort, Hatfield-McCoy Off-road Trails, Bluestone Lake, The Summit Bechtel Reservation, several state parks, as well as white water rafting and other outdoor activities. Continue your adventure here on the Campus Beautiful. The campus facilities are within walking distance, and Wi-Fi is available across campus.

The Carillon

The University is also known as home to its 48-bell carillon which is housed in the bell tower in the original old main building now known as Marsh Administration Building. Marsh is the main administrative office building but is also home to the academic programs in education, undergraduate social work, social sciences, and humanities. Marsh provides three floors of modern classrooms and computer labs.

Academic Buildings

Other primarily academic buildings on the Athens Campus include the Science Hall, which houses the state’s only electron microscope, as well as computer science, biology, and natural sciences programs and associated laboratories, and mathematics.

The J. Frank Marsh Library is a well-equipped, modern facility that houses 170,623 items (this includes DVD’s, CD’s, maps and microforms), and the University’s archives. In the basement of the library, the University has its center for Academic Technologies, which features a television studio, a radio station, a DNA laboratory, and distance education/technology classrooms.

The Alexander Fine Arts Center is home to the music, art, theatre, and communication programs. This building houses the Main Auditorium, H. C. Paul Theatre, Butcher Art Galleries, art studios, band and practice rooms, and classrooms.

The Nick Rahall Technology Center, a state-of-the-art facility, is home to our Business programs, the Entrepreneurial Studies Program, the Center for Academic Technologies, the University computer center, and Public Safety & University Police Department.

Concord University also has an observatory located near Callaghan Stadium.

Student Facilities

Student facilities include the Jean & Jerry Beasley Student Center, which houses the University’s cafeteria, a food court offering Subway, Starbucks, and Food Lab, and student services offices. Our student services offices include:

In addition, the Beasley Student Center also features a number of meeting / conferencing rooms.

The Bonner House

The Bonner House houses the offices of the endowed Bonner Scholarship Program, one of only 22 in the nation and the only in West Virginia. The program provides up to 80 students each year with financial scholarships to support academic endeavors at the university. The students then provide support to their communities through service work, in addition to participating in leadership and personal development activities. It is the goal of the program to develop experienced, knowledgeable and committed individuals who recognize the needs of our society and each person’s responsibility to serve throughout his or her lifetime.

Residence Halls

Concord is a residential campus with a variety of housing options including the recently renovated North Tower (women’s) and South Tower (men’s) which have the latest in wireless technology. Other residential housing includes two traditional resident halls, and a limited number of apartments.

The President’s House

The President’s House, faculty and staff housing, and other offices are located across from the main entrance to campus.

Athletic Facilities

Collegiate and intramural sports play a tremendous role at Concord. Sports and athletic facilities include the Carter Center, which houses the University’s two gymnasiums, athletic offices, classrooms, and indoor athletic facilities. Concord University’s outdoor athletic facilities include Callaghan Stadium featuring an artificial turf football field, new track and field facilities, baseball, softball, and soccer fields and tennis courts.

University Point

The newest building on campus is University Point, which houses the Erickson Alumni Center, Wilkes Family Interfaith Chapel and Museum, modern conference and meeting facilities, Pais fellowship hall, and the Advancement Offices.
