CONCORD UNIVERSITY CELEBRATES ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

ATHENS, W.Va. – A web page featuring Concord University’s honors graduates and academic award recipients is now live on the university website.
Traditionally, the awards are presented at an Honors Banquet held annually on campus. However, sponsors opted for a virtual celebration of the academic achievements again this year due to social distancing constraints.

The late Professor Emerita Mary Edna Beckett and President Emeritus Joseph Marsh, Jr. organized the first Honors Banquet in 1961. Now in its sixtieth year, the tradition has continued as a way to celebrate the outstanding academic achievements of Concord University students.

Since its inception, Cardinal Key and Blue Key Honor Societies have cosponsored the annual event. While many things have changed since the first banquet, organizers say what remains consistent is the pride that faculty and staff at the University have in the accomplishments of Concord students.

Dr. Lisa Darlington, CU’s Cardinal Key sponsor and chair of the Mathematics and Computer Science department, says, “Although we were unable to hold a physical Honors Banquet again this year, we still wanted to honor our students.”

The web page has been designed to recognize students graduating with honors and to announce the recipients of awards given in different departments for achievement in their respective fields and honor societies. Included towards the bottom of the page is a drop-down menu that, when clicked, reveals a description of each award given this year.

Congratulations Honor Graduates!
